Exit Strategy

A couple of chapters attended a social at Exit Strategy in Burlington, and both “escaped” the Prison break. These in person puzzle rooms are really interesting and fun to complete.

McMaster Gift Wrapping at Mapleview Mall

The gift wrapping station at Mapleview mall will be set up soon (Dec. 1st).  This program has generated nearly $40,000 (!) for McMaster Children’s Hospital over the past three years and none of this would be possible without volunteers . Beta Sigma Phi has had such a good time over the past couple of years donating our time for this worthy cause, and we are looking forward to supporting this great cause again this year. Consider coming out and having your gifts wrapped, and donate to a great local cause.

Here is a glimpse into one of our girls wrapping last year.

Delta Pi – The Run for the Cure

On  behalf of the entire Chapter, Grace and Debby and Susan participated in “The Run for the Cure” for the Breast cancer foundation on October the 5th. We supported Team Riccio in order to bolster Debby step-daughter who has been diagnosed and is currently being treated for the disease. Our team raised over $27,000 for the cause. The team included family members, friends, workmates and our sorority members, lead by Michelle’s dad Grant and Debby. It was a beautiful day for our participation in the 5km walk and hope in future there will not be a need for this event.

Carpenter Hospice Award

At a recent Carpenter Hospice BBQ, Beta Sigma Phi was recognized for it’s valuable contributions. Through our chapters yearly service event Dessert Card Party, all of the proceeds from that evening are contributed to Carpenter Hospice. A big thanks to Carpenter Hospice for the recognition.

September Scarf Service

At our September meeting, Beta Xi took on the challenge of making scarves for the Compassion Society – by hand! Jenna provided various colourful balls of wool, and took on the task of trying to teach us all how to make these scarves. The biggest challenge was getting them started, which involved looping the wool around our hands, then slipping loops of wool over other loops to make the scarves. While we had various degrees of success, everyone had a great time and proudly posed with their scarves when we were done.

A night of Sewing for Sew Gorgeous

Beta Xi Chapter of Burlington recently sewed over a dozen dresses for the Sew Gorgeous Organization found here Sew Gorgeous and on Facebook here Sew Gorgeous Facebook. We had such a great evening learning to put together and sew these sweet little dresses. If you’re looking to make some of these yourself here is a great link to a Youtube video How to sew a Pillowcase Dress.

Dessert Card Party

On February 11th, 2014 Beta Sigma Phi hosted our annual dessert card party. All of the proceeds raised at this event are donated locally to Carpenter Hospice. The evening is always a great event full of lots of desserts, card playing and lots and lots of prizes to be won.

This year Beta Sigma Phi’s service project raised a total of $3000 to be donated within our community to Carpenter Hospice. Over the past 15 years Beta Sigma Phi has donated a total of $51,000 to Carpenter Hospice. Good job sisters!
