Chapter Highlights

Beta Xi- February 2016

Our February Meeting was held at the home of Shannon S.  We welcomed Erica to our Chapter for her first visit.  The program for the evening was performing the Exemplar ritual for three of our members: Caroline, Lisa F., and Mary.

Our Social for February will be our annual Spa night at Belinda’s home. This is sure to be a welcome break for most, from work and family responsibilities and pressures.

On the service front, our Chapter is looking forward to participate in the Carpenter Hike on May 28th, and we are eager to return to Darling Home in the spring to volunteer in their garden and grounds, beautifying their outdoor therapeutic spaces for the enjoyment of the residents.

Preceptor Laureate Beta Omega – February 2016

The February meeting was held at Fran’s recently renovated rec. centre.

To get in the spirit of Valentine’s Day, Fran had prepared a Valentine trivia quiz that

proved too difficult for our ladies. There were only a couple of correct answers in the

whole group present!

Janet has started Pledge training with our newest member Bonnie.

Connie asked members to join her for lunch at “Halibut House”, one of her favourite

restaurants, to help her celebrate the 50th anniversary of her first heart surgery. She was

a young 26 year old wife at the time and has had numerous surgeries over the years.

Connie feels very blessed to be able to celebrate this milestone anniversary.

Elections will be held at the March meeting.

Xi Alpha Beta- January 2016

Xi Alpha Beta had a wonderful Christmas season, spending

a good part of it together.

We enjoyed our Secret Sister gift exchange and a lovely turkey

dinner at Barb’s, early in December, with two visitors joining us,

one of whom, Nicole T, has since joined our chapter.

On December 12th nine of us, with our spouses and Nicole, our guest,

met at the Carrolls’ for cocktails and appetizers before going to Jesse

Cook’s show at the PAC.   The show was great and we happily returned

afterwards to Jim and Vel’s to continue the party.

Quite a few of us are heading south over the next few weeks (some are

already there) and a dinner and movie night is planned for one night for

the gals who aren’t heading south.

Beta Xi- January 2016

Our November Meeting was held at the home of Lisa B.  We welcomed Deb J back to our Chapter for a visit.  The program for the evening was a fantastic presentation about Diamond mining and the process, from start to finish, of mining Canadian diamonds in the North.  Our November social was a super fun ‘girl’s weekend away’ in NOTL, where we rent a house for the weekend.  Our chapter had a lot of fun organizing and running the ‘entertainment portion of Friendship Night.  It was truly a blast!

Our December Dinner Meeting was held at the Keg in Waterdown. We had most members attending and had a great time exchanging ornaments with our Secret Sisters.  Our December social was a Cookie Exchange held at Belinda’s home. Too yummy for words!  Just before Christmas, our Chapter was able to volunteer our time once again to Gift Wrapping at Mapleview in support of Mac Children’s Hospital.  We spent two days volunteering, and were quite pleased to have several BSP sisters join us both days, in support of this worthy cause. The proceeds from this year’s gift wrapping in support of MAC, totalled $18,790.95.

Our January Meeting was held at the home of Lisa F.  We welcomed two lovely guests, Deb (for her 3rd visit) and Chi, to our meeting.  We extended an invitation to Deb, to join our chapter and she happily accepted!  We have three sisters in our Chapter who are eligible to receive their Exemplar degree.  We will be holding this ritual for them in-house at our February meeting. The program for our Jan meeting was a ‘speed dating’ get-to-know-you game specifically for our guests, but it was a hilarious evening for us all.  We definitely learned some new things about each other! Our January social was a Paint Nite out at a local restaurant/bar. Participants actually learn to paint a specific image or landscape on canvas, all the while accompanied by good wine and food.

Preceptor Laureate Beta Omega- January 2016

Our Christmas Pot Luck and Secret Sister gift exchange was held again at Ros’home and

it was decorated with fresh greenery throughout. We sat down to a beautiful table

complete with Christmas crackers and great food.

The Pledge ritual was performed for our newest member Bonnie

Following dinner we sang “The Twelve Days of Christmas”, each person acting out the

particular day that they had drawn from the box. Secret Sister gifts were then exchanged.

Each member made a donation towards the purchasing of gifts for “Children of

Christmas Past”. We collected enough money to provide gifts for three seniors, which

Ros purchased and delivered.

Janet opened her home for the mixed Christmas social. It was a wonderful afternoon

with delicious Christmas goodies and music provided by Peter Arthur on his guitar.

Everyone sang along and Peter gave everyone a copy of one of his C.Ds titled “East”.

January’s meeting was held at Mary’s house and after the meeting we played a game of

“Pictionary” followed by much chapter chatter.

Last week 8 members met for lunch at Halibut House with our sister Connie who is

unable to attend our evening meetings due to health problems.

We continue to support Partnership West food bank with our monthly monetary donations.

Preceptor Alpha Alpha- January 2016

In November we met for two scheduled meetings.  Our first meeting was held at the new home of Barbara Gilmore.  As she and Bill have downsized and moved to Waterdown, it was our first opportunity to hold our meeting in their new townhouse.  Her program included a tour of their new home and a round table discussion of all that is involved with settling in and downsizing.

Our second meeting was held at the home of Bev Cundall.  Her program for the evening was “Superstitions” that will help, or not with being lucky.  We also took turns reading entries into a very “dated” book on household hints which resulted in much discussion and a lot of laughter.

December brought our annual Christmas chapter dinner and gift exchange as well as our annual mixed Christmas cocktail party.  Our girls’ dinner was hosted by Kathy Russ and we enjoyed a homemade sit down dinner of roast pork and other goodies.  This was followed by our secret sister gift exchange and our traditional Christmas Ornament exchange. We enjoyed the company of Betty Ann Millar as our guest for the evening as well. We gathered for our cocktail party at the home of Gaye Bovair. Her home was beautifully decorated for Christmas and we all enjoyed a wonderful long visit together.

Our first meeting in January was hosted by Patricia Chambers with Kathy’s sister Peggy as our guest as she was visiting from Montreal.  Patricia gave a very fascinating program on nonprescription remedies and personal choices of current remedies and vitamin options.  She also shared some of the documented remedy recipes that have been passed down to her from her great grandmother who was a known herbalist. This program was very informative and created much discussion.

Our last meeting in January was a social evening hosted by Kathy Russ. We all made our own pizzas and then talked long into the evening as we enjoyed them.  Discussion included making our plans to entertain Delta Pi this spring.

Omicrom Master- January 2016

Our first meeting in November was held at the home of Barb P who had invited a fireman to give us some safety tips on fire prevention in our home, apartment or condo.  A lovely lunch was served.
The next meeting was held at Cora’s for brunch and then several of the sisters went on to the theater to see “Bridge of Spies”.
December 2015 ended with our Christmas Luncheon at the Lord Nelson Restaurant.  We all had a wonderful time.  the food was delicious and Christmas cards were exchanged.  As well we made a donation to the pillow fund for Halton Women’s Place.
January 3 we celebrated the New Year with a mixed Social at Dot and Gerry’s lovely home.  We were delighted to have Allen and Moira join us.  The food was delicious and the company outstanding.
Our first meeting in 2016 was held at the home of Ann.  We discussed the  “Traditions of Beta Sigma Phi” and everyone told about the “Resolutions” they had made for the New Year.  A lovely lunch was served and a “chatty” good time was had by all.  Used  glasses and glass cases were collected and Dot was taking them to her optometrist in Burlington.
On January 19 a group of 7 sorority sisters went to the movies to see “Sisters”.  A funny but somewhat shocking movie for all of us. we then went on to Williams Cafe for dessert and coffee/tea/hot chocolate.
Several of our sisters are away or going away to warmer climates this winter.  Those of us staying here in the cold are a little jealous but we do wish them warm weather and a safe trip.
For our sisters that are “under the weather”  we hope you will be feeling better soon.

Preceptor Beta Epsilon- January 2016

Barb hosted our meeting with her program on interior design, which is exciting for her as she is currently decorating a new condo.  Of course we all gave our own ideas!

Nov. 17. A number of our girls shared conversation and delicious dinners at Kelsey’s and then enjoyed the movie “Bridge of Spies” or “The Martian”.

Nov. 25. Eight of our members attended Friendship night where they had a fun evening socializing with other chapters.

Dec. 15th. We stuffed ourselves at our annual Christmas party at Peggy’s. After a full course – catered turkey lunch we played games, organized by Muriel, sang carols and exchanged secret sister gifts(which always amazed me that there are no duplicates for such a large group.

Jan.5 Our meeting was held at June’s with Susan sharing her program about a relaxing retreat that she attended in Toronto. This was all arranged through her church.

Jan.19. We enjoyed a Ways and Means luncheon prepared by Mary. This was followed by our meeting and chapter courtesies. Mary then shared a review sheet from international where we filled in the spaces regarding our opening and closing rituals  and the sorority grace. This was an interesting challenge!!

Omicron Master – Chapter Highlights –  October 2015

Our first meeting in October was held at the home of Marg B. on October 6.  Betty B. did her program, reading an article from Preston Manning about Earnestine, an aboriginal lady and her colourful and complicated life.

The Torch Bearer Ritual was done for Jenny D.,  who was not able to be present at Spring Rituals when other members of our chapter received the Ritual.

Our second meeting of the month was a brunch at Cora’s enjoyed by ten of our members. Three of us then went on to enjoy the movie, Bridge of Spies with Tom Hanks.

One of our members Ann E.  lost her aunt this month. She had been living at Tansley Woods nursing home for the past number of years and they were very close.

One of our members, Betty B. just came home from hospital, yesterday, after having a major operation and receiving a cancer diagnosis. Our thoughts and prayers are with her.

One of our snowbirds, Donny M.is leaving for Florida today and Marg B. is leaving next week for the winter.

Xi Delta Theta – Chapter Highlights –  October 2015

Xi Delta Theta was well represented at the Niagara Falls N.Y. Convention in late September. We enjoyed meeting new sisters and had fun dressing up and we danced to a great band.

Our October 19  chapter meeting was held at Donna’s home. Louise’s daughter provided the evening programme on meditation and her teachings learned while studying and living in Thiland. The subject was both informative and interesting and we look forward to learning more.

Leslie opened up her cottage near Kingston to the chapter and some of the girls enjoyed a lovely few days there during October.

The October mixed social was something different that we haven’t tried before. ‘Exit Strategy’ in Burlington is a team building room escape experience where players must use objects in the rooms to unlock locks and solve clues to escape within a set time limit. Luckily, all in attendance did escape and ended the night at Liz’s home for euchre and Blue Jays.

Jill and Ken have just welcomed their second grandchild who will bring them much joy, a boy, Ellis Marco born on October 26.

In early November the chapter will hold our annual getaway to Crieff. So far 14 members have signed up for the weekend and we always look forward to a great time with lots of food, games and fun.

Beta Xi – Chapter Highlights – October 2015

Our October Meeting was held Oct. 8th at Mary’s home. We welcomed Deb

to our meeting as our guest. We discussed many items related to

planning our sorority year. We had a lengthy discussion about the budget,

and have brought our comments along to the City Council meeting. We had

some wonderful news from Mary who announced she and Dave are

expecting their third child. Our program was our annual Fall Auction (ways

and means project). Beta Xi is looking forward to supporting our sisters

from Beta Nu Master during their a Rummage Sale this Friday. We have

planned our time to participate in the Mapleview gift wrapping in support of

McMaster Children’s Hospital over the holidays as our winter service

project, and hope to see some of our fellow sisters from other chapters join

us on Dec. 18th or 19th. Stay tuned for more details. Our September social

was a movie night out to see “The Intern”. The October social was a visit to

Exit Strategy where we escaped in record time and now hold the weekly

record. We have planned a girl’s weekend away in NOTL as our November

social. We have eight, possibly nine members attending Friendship Night.

Preceptor Beta Laureate Omega – Chapter Highlights – October 2015

The October 6th meeting was held at Sandra’s home with 10 members and 1 guest

present. For her program, Sandra had members complete a Beta Sigma Phi crossword

puzzle and most members felt that they needed more pledge training!

It must have been a fun evening because Janet’s friend Bonnie decided that she would

join our chapter.

We continue to collect loonies and toonies for Partnership West Food Bank.

A coffee get together is planned for Friday to meet with our sister Connie who because of

health problems is no longer able to make to many of our evening meetings.

Eight members at this time plan on attending Friendship Night.

FEBRUARY CHAPTER HIGHLIGHTS

Beta Xi’s February meeting was held at the home of Beth.

We discussed upcoming events including planning for our Spring service project. Many

members expressed interest in returning to Darling Home (a respite and palliative care centre

for medically fragile children in Milton), to help out with their spring garden clean-up.

Our program for the evening was an informative session about Chinese New Year.

We also performed the Ritual of Jewels ritual, in house, for Joo Hwa and Shannon.

Our social in February was a visit to “Exit Strategy” in Burlington, a type of puzzle/ decode

room. Our sisters had a great time figuring out the clues that would get them out of the themed

room. We are definitely going back!

Delta Pi

Our February meeting took place at the home of Brenda. Her husband, Mark, who is a Home Inspector for the Pillar and Post franchise, was our guest speaker.  It was a very interesting program. He showed us some of the expensive equipment used to detect problems such as moisture in a home.  Mark entertained us with funny stories about things that have happened to him during home inspections. A lot of them had to do with animals – especially cats.

For our February social, 6 couples went to the Black Swan Pub for dinner and karaoke on Valentine’s Day. It was a very memorable evening. The highlights included a duet by “Sonny & Cher” and Delta Pi’s rendition of “Girls Just Want to have Fun”. It was a super evening with good food, great friends and lots of laughs.

Five of our members were helpers at the annual Dessert/Bridge Event while everyone else in our group contributed either door prizes or desserts. We are happy to support Carpenter Hospice. Thank you to the organizers.

Our annual Oscar party was held on February 22nd at Kathy’s. 16 attended. The food was fantastic along with the contests and individual Oscars. The winner, Grant, chose 20 of the 24 categories correctly and won first prize. We are sure that our party was a lot more fun than the actual event!

Another on-going social includes Trivia every Wednesday night at the Black Swan Pub for anyone who is available. We also collect food and other needed items for the food bank every month.

This month, our Chapter has been busy making meals and visiting Wendy, our President, who has cancer. She is continuing to meet with doctors this week to explore all the options for treatment. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

Xi Delta Theta

On February 1st, we fought the elements and had a surprise milestone birthday celebration for Renate. Louise hosted a potluck dinner at her home and we feasted on delicious food and wine!

A small group of us attended Theatre Aquarius on February 3rd to see the comedy “Boeing Boeing”. We all enjoyed the laughs.

Liz hosted a mixed card party on February 7th. A great time was had by all.

Many girls in our chapter wrapped door prizes, attended and helped out at the dessert card party on February11 th. Congratulations to Gillian, Liz and Jill for a job well done!

On February 18th, Renate hosted our monthly Euchre night.  It was lots of fun.

Some of us attended a night out on February 20th. We had dinner at Dymonds restaurant and enjoyed entertainment by the Duelling Pianos. It was a great evening.

Leslie’s daughter had her first child recently. Another little girl to add to our list of new grandchildren.

We continue to support our Foster Child and the food bank each meeting.

Preceptor Gamma Kappa

Not much to report as 6/11 members headed off to the sunny south of USA or Cuba.  Meeting held at Barb’s Feb 2 with Humour program presented by Sonya.  Endowment notice discussed and Chapter voted to support new addition by International.  Oscar night had to be cancelled due to weather and illness on Feb.22 with only 3 members available this year..  Volunteer hours totalled 126 this month and support to the card party event included volunteers of Barb and Charlotte along with our chapter baking, donation and door prizes. THAT’S ALL FOLKS.

Preceptor Laureate Beta Omega

This month we instituted something new for the chapter.  As a career chapter we only meet once a month unless we have a social that month so we decided to have an extra get-together for whoever in the chapter could come.  It isn’t a meeting and chapter business is not discussed.  We hope to provide the social time together that we really enjoy.

This can take the form of meeting at a coffee shop and chatting, watching a movie together, whatever we decide.  The idea is simply to spend extra time together.

We met last week and had a great time chatting and learning things about each other that we never could have imagined.

In September we started circulating a yellow rose mug.  The idea of this is that one sister pulls a name from the mug and during the next month she meets the sister whose name she drew for coffee either at one of their homes or at a café.  The next month, the sister whose name was drawn pulls the name of the sister she will get together with during the next month.  It has been very successful and sisters have been enjoying the one-on-one chats.

Preceptor Laureate Rho

On February 3, Barb welcomed 11 sorority sisters to her home for our monthly business meeting and we were delighted to see a picture of beautiful week old Elisabetta, first grandchild for sority sister Elizabeth. As tradition would have it we were treated with chocolates to celebrate this happy event.

It was noted that we have 2 members Ann and Sandy and husbands registered to go to the Kansas City Convention in 2016.

Founder’s Day and Spring Rituals was discussed with everyone looking forward to these occasions as well as the upcoming International Women’s Day,  The Teen Tour Band at the Burlington Performing Art Centre and Theatre Ancaster.

We will be continuing to collect eyeglasses and used clothing throughout the spring.

Sandy, Dot, Pam, Ann and Roberta helped out setting up the room for the Dessert Bridge at Port Nelson Church. The same members and Barb contributed desserts and 2 gift cards were donated as prizes.  Several members attended the evening festivities and some were lucky to win a prize. By all reports it was a great evening.

Sorority Sister Dot and her family are walking for “The Coldest Night of the Year” to raise money to alleviate suffering for the hungry and homeless.  It is expected that there will be over 20,000 walkers in 80 cities in Canada participating.

For our Cultural Program Betty read an article outlining how we each respond to music and each sister told of a piece of music that is special to each of us. This brought back many wonderful memories.  After our meeting Barb served a delicious cake, cheese and crackers & fruit tea and coffee.

On February 27 at the home of Ann, eleven sisters welcomed Beulah from Laureate Beta Chapter, St John’s Newfoundland.  Beulah is the sister of Dot and she has visited with us on several other occasions.

Gary,  Ann’s author husband gave a most interesting and informative slide show presentation from his book “VANISHED BURLINGTON”  in celebration of Heritage month in Burlington.  We enjoyed seeing pictures of buildings that are no longer standing and have been replaced by other structures or highways as our city grew.  Some of us remember these land marks which proves we are really, really old.   This was followed by a delicious lunch.

Last but not least our sister Elizabeth has arranged for a delightful and entertaining visit to the Art Gallery Of Burlington on March 17.   For $20.00 you will receive a cold buffet luncheon, free parking, and a tour of the gallery and pottery making.   This includes the tip,  taxes, and free pass.  You may bring a friend.

interesting program, near and dear to our hearts on the history of shoes.

Preceptor Alpha Alpha

On November 4th, our meeting was held at Barbara’s home.  We were few in numbers but had a lovely evening with a great program presented by Barbara.  She surprised us with a fascinating item owned since childhood by her husband Bill.  We had to guess what it was and no one knew.  She revealed that it was a Campaign Chest used by British Military Officers.  It had been passed on to Bill from his grandfather who had acquired it as payment from a customer in lieu of funds.  This chest held important documents and family mementos while these officers served on assignments abroad.  The most fascinating treasure was a collection of hair locks from family members, mostly children. They were still wrapped in their original tissue.

Our second meeting in November was held as a social at the Coconut restaurant on Fairview Street.

Some of our members attended Friendship Night.  We very much enjoyed the evening and the delicious sandwiches and goodies.  The “Speed Greetings” program was a big success and a great idea.

Our girls’ Christmas dinner was held at the home of Kathy.  As always it was a very good evening with good food and lots of great cheer.  We had our Secret Sister and ornament exchange and were pleased to have Betty Ann join us.

On Dec. 15th Bev hosted a cocktail party at her home for members and spouses.  Lots of great appetizers, desserts and of course wine.  Great fun had by all.

The first meeting in January was held at the home of Patricia.  She gave us a wonderful program about her post graduate  years at St. Andrews University in Scotland. We learned of the history and very historic traditions (like the wearing of the traditional red robe by all under graduates including Will and Kate who met while students there) of this very ancient university.  She had lots of photos and stories to share about her four years that she lived there on a commonwealth scholarship while she successfully completed her PhD.

Our final meeting in January was also a social evening of a Movie Night.  We went to see The Imitation Game.  Afterwards we went to Williams for tea and discussion.

Preceptor Laureate Rho

On November 4, 2014 at Sandy’s home our group was visited by Lynn and Pat from SOCKS–which is an acronym for Support Orphaned Children Schools.  This is an official Canadian Charity which raises approximately $50,000.00 annually to support the program.  These ladies have wonderful stories to tell about the children they support and would be willing to speak at any other interested sorority groups.  They also brought jewelry made from the bones of goats and camels.  This jewelry is hand, polished and is absolutely beautiful.  Several pieces were bought by our sisters as well as gift or hostess cards.  These cards are then given as a hostess gift to friends instead of “chocolates or wine”.  A very novel and generous idea.  This was a great afternoon filled with conversation laughter and learning as well as a delicious dessert.   I have cards if anyone is interested to know more.

On Tuesday November 18 Ivy arranged for 8 guests and 8 sisters to tour Walker’s Chocolates at 4391 Harvester Road for an interesting and informative experience on chocolate making.  The chocolates are made by hand from stirring the caramel, to putting on reindeer noses to bagging  and attaching the ribbons.  All this was followed by an opportunity to shop in the gift shop.  We then moved on to Sotiris..a modern Greek restaurant at 3135 Harvester Road for a delicious lunch and great company.  Everyone brought a guest and we were able to meet and make new friends.

On Sunday November 23 a group of 10 attended Ancaster High School where we saw an excellent production of “Jesus Christ Superstar” followed by dinner at the Swiss Chalet.

On Wednesday November 26 we enjoyed Friendship night.  Pam, Sandy and Roberta collected the $2.00 per member fee at the door and the money raised was taken to the food bank.   It was felt that the program of “speed meeting” different sisters was interesting and full of fun.  Very nice to get to know each other. One of the best evenings we have enjoyed.

On Tuesday December 2 Ivy arranged for us to have our Christmas luncheon at the Lord Nelson on Plains Road.  Christmas cards were exchanged and we all received a surprise gift from Ivy.  The food was delicious, the waiters were handsome and efficient.  We were all delighted to have Judy ( member at large ) join us.  Lots of fun was had by all.

Two of our sisters Pam and Dot helped with Christmas gift wrapping at the Mall to raise funds for McMaster Children’s Hospital.  They stated they enjoyed wrapping various size gifts and have some funny stories to tell.

On December 28 Joan and Jim welcomed us to their home for a couples Cocktail Party.  It was nice to relax after Christmas and just visit with each other.  We were happy to have Moira ( member at large ) and husband Allen join us.

Also for the month of Christmas we all decided to give a financial donation to Halton’s Women’s place for pillows and SOCKS foundation for needed supplies.  As well several gifts were bought for “Children of Christmas Past” — a group of senior citizens.

On Tuesday January 6 our first meeting of the New Year was held at Pam’s with a lot of business to discuss.  One special highlight was Dot sharing the wonderful news she is expecting another grandchild in July.  Another sister Elizabeth became a grandmother for the first time to a beautiful baby girl. We are all delighted for them.

Betty provided the program by having everyone remembering special and memorable events of our “Christmas Past”  An interesting walk down memory lane.

On Tuesday January 20 Joan arranged for our group to take a tour of the Hamilton Art Gallery.  We first enjoyed lunch at the cafe followed by a guided tour of “The World is an Apple: The Still Life exhibit of Paul Cezanne.  Our docent explained how Cezanne felt about art and how his paintings compared to other artists of his time.  We learned how this French Painter had progressed with his art from the mid 1880’s and how his art influenced other artists.  We were most fortunate to see this exhibit as it will be the only showing in Canada.   We also enjoyed seeing “The Bus”….the Bruegel – Bosch bus by Kim Adams with all its symbols of our mobile and throw away society.   This is a permanent ongoing exhibit at the Gallery.  Later we toured the gift shop.

It has been a busy time for our chapter and we miss our “Snow Bird”  sisters enjoying the warm weather in Florida.

CHAPTER HIGHLIGHTS OCTOBER

Beta Xi

Beta Xi’s October 2nd meeting was held at the home of Mary. We held our annual Fall auction, where animated and competitive bidding for wrapped items ensued! This is always a fun and easy Ways and Means project for us!  Caroline also administered a chilling ‘Halloween Fact or Fiction’ Quiz, the winner taking home sweet treats.

Our September Social was a family Games night at Deepa’s home. Everyone brought yummy goodies, some of the kids got the last swim of the season while others enjoyed dress-up and ‘Frozen’! There were lots of cheats and liars in ‘Chase the Ace’, and Mike’s Rum Punch knocked everyone out!

October’s Social will be a Movie night post-helping out at Beta Nu Master’s Rummage Sale this Friday.

Delta Pi

Our October meeting was held at Gail’s home, however, it was hosted by Deanna. General housekeeping items were discussed and we voted to continue with a City Council Community Fund instead of reinstating the bursary and to continue the tradition of entertaining other Chapters. We have obtained tickets to see John McDermott on December 14, 2014 as our Mixed Christmas Social after which Barb and Bob will be hosting a get together at their home. Several Sisters are going to St. Jacobs on November 8, 2014. We decided to make a donation to the Salvation Army Food Bank for Thanksgiving and continue to sponsor a foster child through World Vision. Our meeting concluded with the performance of the Exemplar Ritual for one of our Sisters and the Masters Ritual for several of our other Sisters. After the meeting, Secret Sister Birthday gifts were handed out to the applicable Sisters and food and drinks were enjoyed by all. Our next meeting will be on November 4th at Kathy’s home.

This meeting was held at Barbara’s home who unknowingly collaborated at her own Pledge Ritual. She wondered why she needed to prepare two tables, and why we needed candles. I told her rituals were just something we did once in a while. We assembled in a half circle and she enjoyed being really welcomed to Preceptor Beta Epsilon.  After our meeting, she then gave her program on her life in Grimsby as a child. We are pleased to have increased our “tribe” by one.
